So here we are, exactly one day prior to Ava turning 3, and finally, she’s potty trained!
Some of you might be going through the grueling process right now, or about to push off onto your journey, well fear no more your girl is here with some tips.
Ok, so you probably think that I’m about to give you a long rigorous list titled “3 days to potty trained” or some crap like that, maybe you’re thinking that I’m going to provide some unrealistic goals, that will only leave your little one and you completely over the process. NOPE you’re absolutely wrong.
The best piece of advice I can give you about potty training is patience. It sounds cliché but patience is key when it comes to potty training. There’s no need to have your little one crying on the potty. You may think potty training is all on you, but it actually all depends on your little one.
Here’s a quick list of other important things you need to keep in mind:
1. Pay attention to the tell-tale signs that your child is ready to start exploring going to the potty.
2. Buy a potty just for your child to explore. Don’t wait till you think your child is ready just to purchase one, it’ll get your child more comfortable.
3. Start watching videos that encourages your child to go to the potty. It helps if they see their favorite characters using the potty.
4. Allow your child to see you using the potty. If you can place their potty next to or directly across from the toilet, your child may feel inspired and want to try theirs out too.
5. Inconsistency is ok, your child has literally been using a diaper all of their life. The transition won’t happen overnight.
6. Don’t compare your child to others…Stacy’s child is using the potty at 2…who cares? Your child will eventually get it.
7. Make it a big deal!!! From the first day Ava started using the potty I would sing and dance while she’s on the potty, some days if she did it multiple times in a row or didn’t wet herself over night she’d be rewarded.
8. It’s ok if your partner has to step in. Sometimes as the main caregiver we can become very possessive over parenting, remember, you didn’t have this child on your own. Your partner’s way could very well be what’ll help you strike gold!
And there you have it, good luck and don’t stress yourself out!
